Stockton Thunder News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Stockton Thunder (13-36-11, 37 points) succumbed to three power play goals to one the ECHL's top power play units, as the Idaho Steelheads (35-20-7, 77 points) sent the Thunder to a 4-2 setback before 3,692 at Qwest Arena on Wednesday.

The three power play goals are the most Stockton has surrendered since Idaho went 3-for-6 on the man-advantage in a Thunder loss to Idaho on February 19.

Attempting to avenge Tuesday night's loss, the Thunder made a statement by drawing first blood on a Ned Havern power play goal at the first period's 2:24 mark, as Havern deflected Dean Stork's right point shot from in close on Idaho goaltender Matt Yeats. Idaho responded with only 5.5 seconds left in the frame, when D'Arcy McConvey converted a rebound off a Dan Hacker stopped shot for a power play goal, to tie the game 1-1.

Thunder goaltender Jake Moreland made eight stops, opposed to Yeats' five in net for the second period, as both teams carried a 1-1 tie through two frames.

Idaho then erupted for three goals in the first 6:38 of the final period, beginning with Mike Adamek's marker 34 seconds into the frame, stuffing a centering set-up by Jeremy Mylymok over an outstretched Moreland for his first professional goal. Marty Flichel expanded the lead to 3-1 for the Steelheads with 4:53 gone, converting on a 20-foot wrist shot from the middle for a power play goal.

The Steelheads power play struck again less than two minutes later on Dan Hacker's goal, stuffing a rebound through Moreland's legs to make it 4-1. Nathan Martz capped the scoring by netting a one-timer from 10 feet out at the 10:18 mark with Monych and Stork assisting on the goal, giving Stork 100 helpers in his ECHL career.

Moreland made 33 stops for the Thunder, while Martz's goal gave the Thunder forward 13 points (5g-8a) in his last eight games.

The Thunder continues its eight-game road trip on Saturday with a 6:10 p.m. PT game at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads. The game can be heard live on the internet (free-of-charge) at is available for viewing at a $6 "pay-per-view" rate at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B-2 Networks.
