Atlanta Gladiators News Release
DULUTH, GA - For the second night in a row the Gwinnett Gladiators dominated the first period, scoring back-to-back goals and setting the pace for the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night.
Once again it didn't last for long, and despite being out-shot 44-27 the Blades scored five unanswered goals to cap a 5-2 win.
The Glads (29-29-7) opened the first with two goals just 15 seconds apart. The first came from rookie forward Dustin Cameron on the powerplay to snap a 0-9 drought on the man advantage. Matt Duffy and Pat Galivan added assists on the goal at 3:35.
Michael Forney then picked up the second tally, his 17th of the season, after speeding by a defender to the outside and beating goaltender Bobby Goepfert to push the lead to 2-0.
The Everblades (34-27-4) responded at the 10:54 mark with a powerplay goal from Matt Beca to make it 2-1. With just 25 seconds remaining in the period Beca picked up his second of the night to pull the Blades even after Beca's centering pass bounced off the stick of Gwinnett defenseman Will Colbert and into the net.
Florida took a 3-2 lead in the second period with a tally from Elgin Reid at the 14:01 mark.
The Blades added two more goals in the third. Alexandre Imbeault earned his 34th of the season at the 5:17 mark. Imbeault now has 11 goals in ten games against Gwinnett this season.
At the 17:21 mark Reid picked up his second of the night pushing Florida's lead to 5-2 and securing the win.
Gwinnett will face the Florida Everblades again Sunday at 4:05 pm. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
