Jackals Jolted by Royals, 9-2

Reading, Pa. - The Elmira Jackals (31-25-6-3) were the victims of a 9-2 rout by the Reading Royals (39-20-2-3) on Saturday night at the Sovereign Center. Elmira's season-long point streak came to an end at seven games (5-0-0-2) in the loss.

Olivier Labelle scored the first of five Royals power-play goals at 9:06 of the first period to put Reading up 1-0.

Justin Donati sent in a rebound from the doorstep off of a Chris Frank shot to tie the game, 1-1, at 15:44 of the first. Donati's goal extended his point streak to six games (5g-6a).

Ryan Cruthers (16:33) and Andrew Sarauer (PP, 18:27) scored toward the end of the first period to give Reading a 3-1 lead after the opening frame.

Chris Blight wristed a puck from the high slot past Jackals goaltender Marco Cousineau 41 seconds into the second period to make it 4-1, Royals.

Eric Regan lengthened his point streak to six games (3g-4a) when he snapped in a shot on the power play at 1:58 of the second period to bring the Jackals to within two goals at 4-2.

The Royals would score five-straight goals to finish the game. Andrew Sarauer's power-play goal at 12:24 of the second gave Reading a 5-2 lead entering the third period.

Yannick Riendeau kicked off the third period with a pair of goals at 3:36 and 9:40 to put Reading up 7-2. Denny Urban banked a shot into the net off of a Jackal on the power play at 12:52 and Casey Haines poked a puck in from the crease to finish the scoring at 15:36 on the power play, 9-2.

Cousineau fell to 20-13-4-1 in the loss, making 28 saves. Royals goaltender Daren Machesney improved to 3-12-0-0 on the season with 32 saves on 34 shots.
