Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - Peter Delmas earned his second career shutout, while Joey Haddad scored twice to lead the Wheeling Nailers to a 3-0 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays Saturday night. The win was the third straight for the Nailers, and moves the team up the standings in front of the largest crowd of the season, announced at 4,640 at WesBanco Arena.
Signed to the team yesterday, forward Chris Kushneriuk scored his first professional goal in his first career game. Kushneriuk swung the puck in front and slipped the puck by the left pad of Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead at the end of one.
In the second, Joey Haddad scored the first of his two goals in a similar fashion, carving a backhand shot at the top of the crease past the left pad of Owen to extend the lead to 2-0 at the 10:09 mark. Haddad struck again with nearly four minutes later on the power play, sliding a shot through the Owen's five-hole to propel the Nailers to a 3-0 lead at the end of two periods.
Goaltender Peter Delmas stopped all nine South Carolina shots in the third, to secure the 3-0 shutout victory for Wheeling. The shutout is the second for Delmas in his rookie season, as he stopped all 17 shots faced in the contest. Kushneriuk finished the game with a goal and an assist, while forward Paul Crowder had a hand on all three goals, logging three assists.
