Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades welcome the Kamloops Blazers to town tonight on "Girls Rock Night", presented in partnership with Saskatchewan Blue Cross. Game time is 7:05 pm.
Tonight's special event will feature an appearance by two-time Olympic gold medalist and Saskatoon's own, Catriona Le May Doan. The former world champion speed skater will be in attendance as part of an event to promote girls' sports in the community and to showcase the opportunities available for female athletes.
The Blades come into tonight's game after falling 6-2 last night at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos. Gaelan Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) and Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) scored for the Blades in the loss while goaltender Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) turned aside 34 of 40 shots sent his way.
Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) has 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points through 13 games to lead the Blades in scoring and remains in the top-10 in the Western Hockey League in that category. Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) is second on the team with 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points.
Hulak, Wintoneak, and Burke Gallimore (Edmonton, AB) lead the Blades in goals with six markers each.
Randy McNaught (Nanaimo, BC) is the Blades' leader in penalty minutes with 70.
In goal, Morrison has appeared in 11 games this season with a 6-3-0-2 record, a 2.50 goals against average (3rd in the WHL), and a .913 save percentage (4th in the WHL). Meanwhile, Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) has a 2-2-0-0 with a 2.90 goals against average and a .880 save percentage in 4 games split between the Blades and the Prince Albert Raiders.
The Blazers also played last night, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre. The Blazers are 1-4 so far on a road trip through the East Division that wraps up tonight in Saskatoon.
The Blazers offense normally is lead by the efforts of 19-year-old Tyler Shattock, who has 8 goals and 12 assists for 20 points on the season, and overage forward C.J. Stretch, who has 5 goals and 13 assists for 18 points on the campaign. However, the team will be without Stretch, who was suspended four games by the Western Hockey League yesterday for a hit on Swift Current defenseman Eric Doyle, and could be without the services of Shattock, who missed last night's game in Prince Albert with a leg injury.
The Blazers next leading offensive players after the pair is defenseman Bronson Maschmeyer, who has 14 points this season, and forward Shayne Wiebe, who has registered 13 points this year.
In goal, Saskatoon native Justin Leclerc has appeared in 10 games this season with a 5-4-1-0 record to go along with a 3.85 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. Sophomore Jon Groenheyde has seen action in 8 games with a 3-2-1-0 record, a 4.04 goals against average, and a .904 save percentage.
