Tri-City Defeats Spokane 4-3

The Tri-City Americans scored two goals 41-seconds apart in the third period and picked up a 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday night in front of 8,735 fans in the Spokane Arena. The Chiefs came from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead 5:58 into the third, but a Tri-City power play goal at 13:55 tied it up with the game winner coming shortly thereafter at 14:36.

Tri-City scored the game's first goal at 8:55 of the opening frame and extended their lead to 2-0 with their first of two power play goals at 1:55 of the second. The Americans were outshooting Spokane 13-5 at that point thanks to three power play opportunities, including a five minute score at will on a fighting major given to the Chiefs T.C. Cratsenberg in the first.

Kenton Miller scored the Chiefs first goal at 5:07 of the second from Stefan Ulmer and Matt Marantz, who tied it for the Chiefs at 18:25 of the period. Tanner Mort and Miller assisted on the goal.

While the Chiefs were skating off a Tri-City power play Tyler Johnson was drug down on a scoring opportunity and awarded a penalty shot. The 19-year-old scored at 5:58 to give the Chiefs their first lead of the night. Spokane had five power play opportunities in the third and seven total for the game

In the third, the Americans were whistled for five penalties while the Chiefs had three. Tri-City scored on one of them and finished the night 2-7 on the man advantage. Spokane was 0-7 while outshooting Tri-City 32-21.

The Chiefs will begin a stretch of 17 games in 35 nights on Wednesday night when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings on TicketsWest Player Magnet Wednesday. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a collector's edition Player Magnet. Spokane will play four games in five nights next week including a Friday road trip to Kelowna. The Chiefs will also host Portland on next Saturday night on Halloween.
