Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president & general manager Craig Brush, along with head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has re-signed long time Everblades forward Reggie Berg to a contract for the 2005-06 season.
Last season Berg averaged 1.38 points per game after finishing second on the team in scoring with 55 points (21 goals, 34 assists) in 40 games played. The 28-year-old native of Anoka, Minnesota was also a key contributor during the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs notching 13 points (7g, 6a) in 18 post-season games. Berg's 55 points was a personal high in his five seasons as an Everblade.
"Bringing Reggie back to this team was a major goal of ours this off-season." Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming said. "Not only did we see great production from Reggie on the ice, but off the ice, his experience translated into solid leadership in the locker room. In this league, it's hard to find players that bring the intangibles that Reggie brings to this team, and that is why we worked so hard to come to a deal for this season."
In addition to finishing second on the team in scoring last season, Berg led the Everblades in power play points with 20 (4g, 16a) and finished tied for third on the team in game winning goals with three. The former draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996 picked up five points in one game on Jan. 29 vs. Louisiana and strung together a seven-game point scoring streak from March 1-15, both of which were Everblades season high's in 2004-05.
2005-06 will be Berg's sixth season with the Everblades. As an Everblade, Berg has tallied 228 points (105g, 123a) in 194 regular season games, and has chipped in 39 points in 44 Everblades playoff games. His 228 points is second only Tom Buckley in Everblades all-time history. Buckley picked up 310 points in his five seasons with the Everblades.
In addition to his time with Florida, Berg has seen playing time in the American & International Hockey Leagues with Orlando, Cincinnati and Lowell. During his professional career, Berg has skated in 258 regular season games, scoring 115 goals and tallying 138 assists. Despite entering his sixth season professionally, Berg is not yet considered a veteran by ECHL standards (260 professional games played). Berg's top professional season came in 2000-01 when he combined to score 61 points in 66 games between the Everblades, Cincinnati (IHL) and Lowell (AHL).
Prior to turning pro in the 1999-00 season, Berg spent four seasons playing at the University of Minnesota where he collected 158 points (74g, 84a) in 160 games.
Berg is the fifth player signed by the Everblades this off-season, joining Nick Vukovic, Brandon Coalter, Ryan Brindley and Chris Lee.
