Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have announced that center Craig MacDonald and defenseman Brad Woods have each agreed to terms on a contract for the 2005-06 season. Per club policy, terms of each deal were not disclosed.

MacDonald, 21, joins the RoadRunners after completing a successful four-year collegiate career at Elmira (N.Y.) College where he finished second overall in the ECAC Division III West Conference scoring race in 2004-05 to teammate Jarrett Konkle with 18 goals and 34 points in 25 games. Following the conclusion of his senior year, the Milton, ONT native signed a contract with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League and tallied four assists and five points in the final seven games of the regular season. MacDonald totaled 43 goals and 93 points in 92 games with the Soaring Eagles.

"We're looking forward to have Craig join our line up," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "He's a guy that is ready to make the jump to the pro game and will bring a mixture of speed, skill, and character."

Woods, 23, was a sixth round draft pick of the Florida Panthers at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot 4-inch, 215lbs defenseman leaves St. Thomas University (Fredericton, NB) following his junior season. A native of Cambridge, ONT, Woods has participated in each of Florida's last two training camps. He finished his collegiate career with seven goals and 19 points in 73 games.

"Brad has performed well at camp with Florida in the past, and we believe the he can further develop his skills with us in Phoenix," said Filion. "His size will be a tremendous asset to our blue line and his hard shot will lend itself to both our power play and penalty kill."

MacDonald and Woods bring the total number of players under contract to seven. They join a roster that already includes forwards Dean Tiltgen and Ben Knopp, defensemen Ed Hill and Paul Ballantyne, and goaltender Michael Mole.

RoadRunners professional hockey returns to downtown Phoenix at 7PM on Saturday, October 22 when the Utah Grizzlies visit America West Arena in the ECHL season opener for both teams. Season tickets for all 36 home games are on sale now and start as low as $252. For more information, call (602) 462-GOAL or visit www.phxroadrunners.com.
