Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades have acquired 17-year-old defenseman Tyler Kizuik from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a conditional bantam draft pick in 2011.

Kizuik (pronounced "KIZZ-ick"), a native of Indian Head, Saskatchewan, was the Cougars 3rd round pick (54th overall) in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.

Last season, the 6'1", 170-pounder was a member of the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League. In 38 games played, he had 10 assists to go along with 12 penalty minutes.

In January, he took part in the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Port Alberni, British Columbia as a member of Team West. In 6 tournament games, he was held pointless with 2 penalty minutes.

With the move, the Blades now have 26 players on the roster, including 15 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders. The roster does not include eligible returnees forward Milan Kytnar, defenseman Sam Klassen, and goaltender Braden Holtby.

The Blades open the 2009-10 Regular Season Friday, September 18th against the Regina Pats at Credit Union Centre in the 92.9 The Bull Home Opener. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The Blades will debut the Reebok EDGE Uniform System and prior to puck drop will raise the 2008-09 East Division Banner.
