September 15, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver B.C.-Vancouver Giants General Manager Scott Bonner today announced that the Giants have acquired a 3rd round pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft from the Red Deer Rebels. In return, Vancouver sends 6'3'' 183 pound defenseman Simon Witt to Red Deer. Witt, a native of Victoria, B.C., played 7 games for the Giants last season, without recording a point. He appeared in 5 preseason games with the Giants this season.
"Simon is a great kid" says Bonner, "but it came down to numbers for us, especially with the arrival of David Musil and Kevin Connauton, and we had to make room on our blue line. We wish Simon the best of luck and hope he gets a chance to play a regular role in Red Deer."
The Giants have 9 defensemen still on their roster, including Connauton and Nolan Toigo who are both attending Vancouver Canucks training camp.
The Giants will open their 9th Western Hockey League season on Thursday in Kelowna. The Giants home opener is at the Pacific Coliseum Saturday night against the Everett Silvertips.
