Saskatoon Blades News Release

For the second straight game the Saskatoon Blades filled the opponent's net, this time putting 8 past the Red Deer Rebels to claim their 40th win of the season.

Similar to Wednesday night in Edmonton, the Blades did not get on the score sheet in the first period. The Rebels had their chances but Braden Holtby did a good job to shut the door.

The Rebels opened the scoring on a 5 on 3 power play early in the second period. Chris Langkow tied the game at 1-1 on a power play goal when he found the puck in a scramble in the crease to pot his 12th of the season. At the 11:05 mark Gaelan Patterson and Colin Joe worked the puck into the Rebels zone and Joe found a streaking Walker Wintoneak who had an easy tap in for his 22nd goal of the year. Jyri Niemi had one of his best games of the year, and he was rewarded when his booming point shot from the point found the top right hand corner on the power play. Following Niemi`s goal things got rough and a full out line brawl ensued. Teigan Zahn, Sam Klassen, Brendon Wall, Charles Inglis, and Josh Nicholls all dropped the gloves at 14:23 of the second period. All players, besides Zahn, were kicked out of the game for being involved in a multiple fight situation. Patterson and Joe would add even strength goals to close out the scoring in the second period, giving the Blades a 5-1 lead.

Burke Gallimore scored his 22nd goal on a nice individual effort to fight off a defender and slip the puck through the legs of the Rebels goalie. Adam Chorneyko (19) and Derek Hulak (25) added power play goals to make the final 8-1.

Holtby made 25 saves on 26 shots to pick up his 32nd win of the season. The Blades power play was 4 for 8 while the penalty kill was 6 for 7. With the win, the Blades have officially clinched a playoff berth.

The Blades have a rare Saturday off before they host the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday night, puck drop at 6PM.
