Vancouver Giants News Release

SPOKANE WA - Two champions met on Friday night in Spokane and in a battle of heavyweights, and when the dust settled, the Vancouver Giants behind the amazing goaltending of Tyson Sexsmith, downed the Spokane Chiefs 4-0, ending the Chiefs 11 game win streak and extending the Giants win streak to nine games.

Sexsmith turned aside 00 shots and made some incredible stops at key moments of the game. Early in the second period, Drayson Bowman was in a word ROBBED by a Sexsmith glove save alone in front. Late in the second, Tyler Johnson was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway. Johnson walked in and Sexsmith stood tall, making a blocker save to turn aside the speedy Spokane forward.

Garry Nunn on a nice tip in early in the first put the Giants up 1-0 after one. Brendan Gallagher deflected a Brent Regner shot past Chiefs keeper Dustin Tokarski to double the lead early in period two.

Craig Cunningham and Mikhail Fisenko notched goals in the third to round out the scoring and Sexsmith turned aside 28 shots for his 5th shutout of the season and 25th of his stellar WHL career.

The Giants are now 45-4-0-3 on the season and head to Portland for their fourth game on this five game road trip.
