Montgomery Biscuits News Release

KODAK, Ten. - The Biscuits (6-5) were shutout for just the second time this season, falling to the Tennessee Smokies (5-7) 4-0 on Monday night. Montgomery mustered only three hits in the losing effort-two singles from Tommy Coyle, and another on a Kean Wong bunt-as the Biscuits came up short for only the second time in eight games.

Jake Faria (0-1) got the start on the hill for the Biscuits, but the right-hander did not have his best stuff, walking a season-high seven batters and allowing four runs in just 4.2 innings along with five strikeouts.

Tennessee shortstop Carlos Penalver continued to be a thorn in Montgomery's side as the number nine hitter delivered his second and third straight RBI-hits against the Butter and Blue-a two-run double in the second and an RBI-double in the fourth-to add to his collection of five RBIs overall in the seriesl.

That was all that was necessary for Smokies starter Paul Blackburn (2-0), who dominated the Biscuits all night. The righty ended Monday tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three strikeouts in the victory, lowering his ERA to an obscene 0.50.

The Biscuits are now 15-15 in their last 30 games against their North Division rivals, but will look to get back on track on Tuesday night when Taylor Guerrieri (0-0) takes on Brad Markey (0-0) at 6:05 PM.

The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk in four days to open up a five-game series with the Jacksonville Suns on Friday, April 22 when it will be Princess Night and an all-new MAX Fireworks Show.
