Pugliese joins team from High-A Myrtle Beach; Garner and Peralta placed on inactive list

SEVIERVILLE - Prior to today's game, the Chicago Cubs have announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster.

RHP James Pugliese has been transferred from High-A Myrtle Beach and added to the roster . The 23-year old made three relief apperances with the Pelicans in 2016, posting an 0-1 record with a 3.60 ERA (2 ER in 5.0 IP) and seven strikeouts. The right-hander spent most of last season with Myrtle Beach, compiling a 4-2 clip with a 2.62 ERA (16 ER in 55.0 IP) and five saves in 30 relief appearances. Pugliese was transferred to Tennessee on August 31 and went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (2 ER in 2.2 IP) in two outings with the Smokies.

RHP David Garner and RHP Starling Peralta have both been placed on the temporarily inactive list. In four outings this season, Garner has not factor into any decisions and has yet to give up a run in five innings of work, while punching out nine hitters. The right-hander split last season between Low-A South Bend and High-A Myrtle Beach, accruing a 4-1 record with a 3.72 ERA (23 ER in 55.2 IP) and three saves in 32 games. Peralta has yet to factor into a decision as well, but has compiled two saves and a 4.50 ERA (3 ER in 6.0 IP) in four relief appearances. In 39 outings with the Smokies last year, the 25-year old went 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA (12 ER in 54.1 IP) and six saves.

Tennessee's active roster currently stands at 24 players with two players on the temporarily inactive list and one player currently on the disabled list. A revised roster is attached.

The Smokies wrap up their road trip this evening against the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Smokies are currently in the midst of a five-game homestand, with the second game of their series against the Montgomery Biscuits set for 7:05 p.m. this evening at Smokies Stadium. Tennessee is expected to give the nod to RHP Paul Blackburn (1-0, 0.82), while the Rays's Double-A affiliate is slated to send RHP Jake Faria (0-1, 2.84) to the hill.

It's will be a McGhee-Tyson Aiport Dollar Monday at the ballpark, with fans truly getting the bang for their buck. Hot dogs, popcorn, small Pepsi products and programs will all be on sale for only one dollar each, providing a great value throughout the evening. In addition, kids will be able to run the bases after the game with the Shoney's Kids Run The Bases.
