Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mobile BayBears right fielder Gabriel Guerrero drove in four runs and finished a home run shy of the cycle, and the visitors combined for nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings of an 11-6 comeback win over the Jacksonville Suns in front of 1,683 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Monday night.
Mobile (5-6) struck for two runs to open the game against Suns left-hander Jarlin Garcia. Shortstop Ildemaro Vargas, left fielder Mitch Haniger and Guerrero each doubled to left field, with the last two driving in runs for a 2-0 Mobile lead. Jacksonville (6-6) answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning, as second baseman Avery Romero walked and scored on left fielder Austin Dean's RBI double to left field.
BayBears left-hander Anthony Banda maintained the 2-1 Mobile lead until the fourth inning. Suns catcher Francisco Arcia had one of his team-high three hits with one out. Banda then walked shortstop James Roberts and misplayed Garcia's bunt along the third-base line. Romero lined a two-out, two-run single to right field, and Dean hit an RBI double that bounced over the left-center field fence for a 4-2 Suns lead.
Garcia kept the lead until the sixth inning, when Vargas hit a leadoff home run to the left-field Tiki Terrace to snap a string of 13 BayBears Garcia had retired in order. With two outs and a one-run lead, Garcia walked first baseman Kevin Cron to end his outing, yielding to left-hander Jose Jose (1-2). Guerrero singled, and catcher Ronnie Freeman placed a two-run, go-ahead double down the right-field line before scoring on second baseman Jamie Westbrook's RBI single to make it 6-4.
Mobile grew its lead with five two-out runs in the seventh inning against Suns right-hander Blake Logan. After two walks and a hit batter, Guerrero drove a three-run triple to right field, Freeman hit an RBI double, and Westbrook hit an RBI single. Trailing 11-4, the Suns got two ninth-inning runs with four walks and a hit batter against left-hander Will Locante. With the bases full, left-hander Keith Hessler got the final out for his first save and a win for right-hander Matt Stites (1-0).
UP NEXT: The Suns continue their series with Mobile at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, when Southern League Pitcher of the Week and Suns right-hander Austin Brice (0-0) is scheduled to face BayBears right-hander Yoan Lopez (1-0). The first Community First Credit Union Two-For-Tuesday means 2-for-1 tickets at the box office for Community First Credit Union members using their CFCU Visa or debit card. Gates open at 6 p.m.
