Late Runs Bury Barons in 9-3 Defeat

Birmingham Barons News Release
JACKSON, TN - Highly touted prospect Carson Fulmer dealt his strongest start of the season, but the Birmingham Barons offense ended up on the wrong side of a pitcher's duel in a 5-2 loss to the Jackson Generals.
Fulmer fell to 0-3 on the season, his first at the AA level. The no. 8 overall selection in last year's MLB draft finished with 5.0 innings pitched, allowing just five hits and three earned runs along with just two walks and five strikeouts. The 22-year-old continues to seek his first professional win.
At the plate, White Sox no. 4 overall prospect gave Fulmer his first bit of run support this season, striking the second pitch of the game over the left center field wall for his first home run of the year. Engel added his seventh stolen base of the season in the loss.
Nicky Delmonico continued his torrid start to the season, following up a 4-for-5 performance last night with a sixth inning RBI single that scored Joey DeMichele to give the Barons their second run of the game.
The normally reliable Barons bullpen faltered tonight, allowing a five run eighth inning that put the game out of reach for Birmingham. Matt Lollis surrendered his first run of the season in his eighth inning of work this year, and Robinson Leyer could not prevent further damage during the Generals final frame offensively.
James Dykstra made his AA debut out of the bullpen, surrendering a home run to D.J. Peterson in the sixth inning. The Barons are now 1-5 when allowing a home run this season.
LHP Jordan Guerrero toes the slab for Birmingham tomorrow, looking to capture his first win of the season in his third AA start.
