Southern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Named

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces its Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 7 through 17. Righthander Austin Brice of the Jacksonville Suns was selected as the Pitcher of the Week while Tennessee Smokies outfielder Bijan Rademacher earned Player of the Week honors.
Although he did not factor into either decision, Suns hurler Austin Brice turned in a pair of scoreless starts last week, twice giving his Jacksonville club a chance to earn the win. The Hong Kong-born pitcher tossed 11 shutout innings, allowing just five hits and four walks, while striking out eight. In his first outing of the year, a 2-1 loss to Birmingham on the ninth of April, the righty fired six shutout frames, fanning six batters and walking none. Brice again kept his opponent off the scoreboard in his next outing, a 4-1 loss at Pensacola on April 14. The Pittsboro, North Carolina native allowed just two hits over his five innings, striking a pair in that time.
Reaching safely in all 10 games played last week, Tennessee outfielder and designated hitter Bijan Rademacher produced a well-rounded start to his 2016 campaign, leading the league with a .440 average, .576 on-base percentage, .720 slugging percentage and OPS of 1.296. The Anaheim Hills, California native began the season with an eight-game hitting streak, batting .524 over that time. Although he saw the streak end on April 16, Rademacher continued his on-base streak after drawing a pair of walks in his final two games. His biggest performance came on April 13 in a 7-3 win at Birmingham. The Orange Coast College product went 3-for-5 with two runs, a homerun and four RBI.
