
Blackard pitches Otters past Freedom

Cody Blackard held the Florence Freedom to a pair of runs over seven-plus innings as the Evansville Otters won game two of their series against the Florence Freedom 4-2.
The Otters got on the board in the first inning with back-to-back singles from John Coker and Trask Munoz. After Jeff Goldbach moved them to second and third with a groundout, Beau Blacken sent home Coker with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Evansville.
Florence came back with a run in the second with doubles by Trevor Hall and Scott Martin to tie the game at 1-1.
Evansville took the lead for good in the third. With one out, Coker and Munoz had consecutive base hits for the second time in the game, this time doubles to put the Otters up 2-1. Jeff Goldbach followed with a single to make it 3-1. Florence got a homer form Kyle Geswein in the fourth to make it 3-2.
The Otters got the run back with two outs in the sixth as Brian McKenna hit his first homerun since July 9th, his ninth of the season to make it 4-2 Evansville.
Blackard went seven innings allowing seven hits and two runs in picking up is fifth win of the season. Nathan Stone pitched a perfect eighth and Ryan Burnau a perfect ninth, notching his fifth save. Michael Dennison dropped to 7-7 for the Freedom.
In the finale of the series, Brian Kroll (3-4) will go for Evansville against Joel Posey (7-0) for Florence.
