Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things (46-25), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, fell to the Chillicothe Paints at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, OH Wednesday night when the Paints defeated them 8-2.
It took a record setting pitcher to stop Washington's streak at 13. Chillicothe's John Martinez (14-2) set an all-time Frontier League record with his 14th season victory. The 5'11 right-handed pitcher set the record by pitching a complete game, allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out four.
The Wild Things scored in the first inning when Chris Carter grounded out, driving in Lance Koenig.
In the third inning Chillicothe scored three runs. But Washington came back in the fourth to score when Pat O'Brien grounded out driving in Carter. That was the end of Washington's scoring for the evening.
In the fourth inning, Chillicothe scored one more run, and in the sixth inning Chillicothe's second baseman Doug Dreher hit a grand slam, driving in Jose Rodriguez, Ryan Rafferty, and Andrew Kasperek.
J.D. Cockroft (3-4) took the loss, allowing nine hits, eight runs, walking three, and striking out three in six innings of work. Mike Grady pitched the final two innings allowing one hit.
The Wild Things continue to lead the East Division of the Frontier League.
The Wild Things meet the Paints for the final game of the three game series Thursday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Flagship WJPA 95.3 F.M. will broadcast the game. Washington returns home to Falconi Field to host the Richmond Roosters Friday. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
