Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons' offense erupted for 11 runs in a resounding win on Sunday in the series finale against the Rochester Red Wings at Sahlen Field. Herd starter Drew Hutchison went five innings on the cool Sunday afternoon, and he allowed just one run and got his second win of the season.
The Red Wings' Darren Baker led off the game with a ground ball single, and Jake Alu doubled him home in the next at bat, the first and only run Rochester would score in the first inning.
Buffalo wouldn't let the Red Wings' lead last long. Tanner Morris singled to jumpstart the Bisons' offense in the bottom of the first, and then Davis Schneider, the next batter, hit his second home run in as many games to take the lead for Buffalo. Wynton Bernard walked after that, and later in the inning he was knocked in by a Jamie Ritchie single to make the score 3-1 Buffalo.
Hutchison set the Red Wings down in order in the top of the second. Then began the Bisons' hit parade. Luis De Los Santos started the bottom of the second with a single, and then Cameron Eden walked. After a Rafael Lantigua strikeout, Tanner Morris, Davis Schneider and Wynton Bernard hit consecutive one-RBI singles. Rob Brantly, batting after Bernard, drove in the next run with a fielder's choice hit to second.
Finally, LJ Talley singled home Bernard, before De Los Santos and Eden made consecutive outs to end the frame. After all that, Buffalo was up 8-1 going into the top of the third inning.
De Los Santos extended the Bisons' lead to 9-1 in the fourth inning with an RBI double. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Bisons added an insurance when Ritchie singled to left to score Bernard, and another later in the inning when Brantly scored on a throwing error by Rochester shortstop Franklin Barreto, making the score 11-1 Buffalo.
After giving up a run in the first, Hutchison shut Rochester down until he was relieved after the fifth. Paul Fry came in after Hutchison and threw a scoreless sixth inning, and Jackson Rees held Rochester off the board in the seventh. Hayden Juenger pitched a scoreless eighth, but he wasn't able to finish the ninth after allowing a double and a single to start the frame.
Julian Fernandez relieved Juenger with one out in the top of the ninth, and three Red Wing runs came in before Fernandez induced a Franmil Reyes fly out to finish the game with an 11-4 Bisons win.
Morris, Bernard and Ritchie each had three hits for Buffalo in the contest, and Schneider chipped in three RBI. The Bisons ended up with 16 hits, and each hitter in their starting lineup but Cameron Eden recorded a base knock in the game.
After an off day on Monday, the Bisons head to Allentown, PA, for a six game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
