Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Gwinnett Braves in the finale of a four-game set from Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). After back-to-back losses, the Herd needs a win today to earn a split of the series. Tomorrow, the homestand continues with the start of a four-game series with the Durham Bulls.
vs. the Braves
The Bisons are in danger of losing a series at home to the first time ever to Gwinnett. Since the G-Braves joined the IL in 2009, Buffalo is 12-7 against them at Coca-Cola Field. After a split in â09, the Bisons picked up three consecutive 3-1 home series wins over the Braves.
Today's Starter
RHP JUSTIN GERMANO gets the ball for the 13th time this season. The righty has allowed two earned runs or less in three consecutive starts, posting a 3.18 ERA since the start of June. Germano allowed just two runs in five innings in a no-decision on Friday in Pawtucket.
Jose Reyes
Blue Jays SS JOSE REYES is scheduled to join the Bisons on Friday as he continues his MLB injury rehab assignment. On the DL since suffering an ankle injury on April 12 with Toronto, Reyes began his rehab with Dunedin (A) on Monday and hit .417 (5-12) in three games. A four-time All-Star and 2011 N.L. batting champion, Reyes is scheduled to play three games with the Bisons.
Mauro Hits it Far-O
INF MAURO GOMEZ is now tied for 3rd in all of minor league baseball with his 19 home runs. Single-A Hickory of the South Atlantic League has two sluggers (INF Ryan Rua, INF Joey Gallo) with 22 each. Since Gomez hit his 8th of the year on May 26, he has three more homers than any other minor leaguer. In his last 22 games, Gomez is hitting .259 with 12 homers, 23 RBI and a .718 slugging pct.
Rotating Nicely
The Bisons starting rotation has posted a 2.23 ERA in the team's last seven games. Over that span, the group has five quality starts and has yielded just 26 hits and 12 walks over 40.1 innings of work while striking out 31. Opponents have scored more than two runs off a Herd starter only once since the streak began on June 14.
Bisons Bits
LHP TOMMY HOTTOVY has four scoreless outings to begin his Bisons career (3.0 IP). INF JIM NEGRYCH is 3rd in the IL with a .314 average.
Blue Jays Update
Make it eighth straight wins for the Blue Jays (35-36) after a 5-2 win over the Rockies on Wednesday night. INF ADAM LIND homered for the third time in five games and is now hitting .340 on the season. Toronto is off today and will open a three-game set with Baltimore on Friday.
