Bisons Rally For Five In Fourth For Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Shortstop Luis Rivas smacked a lead-off homer to ignite a five-run, fourth-inning rally, while second baseman Trent Durrington roped a three-run triple in the big frame as Buffalo rolled to an 8-1 win over Indianapolis Sunday afternoon at Dunn Tire Park.

The Bisons improve to 25-15 on the season and 10-8 at home, while the Indians fall to 25-17 overall and 13-7 on the road. Indianapolis continues to lead the International League's West Division by 4.5 games over both Columbus and Louisville.

Rivas (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) knotted the contest with his fourth roundtripper of the season -- a solo shot to left-center. The next three batters reached base safely before Buffalo took the lead when 1B Ryan Mulhern was hit by a pitch. Durrington (1-for-3, 3 RBI) then cleared the bases with his first triple of the campaign, giving the home team a 5-1 lead.

The Bisons increased their advantage with three runs in seventh. C David Wallace highlighted the frame with a lead-off dinger to left.

The Indians scored their lone run in the fourth when 3B Russ Johnson brought LF Chris Aguila plateward with his sixth double of the year.

Tribe CF Rajai Davis (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single to right in his first at bat of the afternoon.

Buffalo RHP Sean Smith (5.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO), who reached a season-high strikeout total, improved to 4-1 with the win.

Indianapolis RHP Bryan Bullington (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 6-2.

Indianapolis and Buffalo square off in game three of the four-game set on Monday at 7:05 p.m. Indians LHP Shane Youman is scheduled to face Bisons LHP Jason Stanford.

The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
