Norfolk Tides News Release
Matt LeCroy clubbed a three-run home run during a five-run 5th inning, leading the Rochester Red Wings to a 6-3 win in game one of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
With the score tied 1-1, Rochester sent 10 men to the plate in the decisive 5th inning, ending the Tides' three-game winning streak. Tommy Watkins reached on an infield single to start the inning, and advanced to second on a throwing error by Terry Tiffee. Watkins advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and back-to-back walks to Denard Span and Alexi Casilla loaded the bases against Norfolk starter Jim Johnson (1-4).
Matt Moses followed by grounding a potential inning-ending double play ball to Tides' shortstop Brandon Fahey, but Fahey could not field the ball cleanly, allowing each runner to reach safely and put the Red Wings up 2-1. After a sacrifice fly by Garrett Jones put Rochester up 3-1, LeCroy followed by drilling a 1-0 pitch into the left field picnic area to give the Wings a 6-1 lead.
Eider Torres went 2-for-3 with a home run in the contest, extending his hitting streak to ten straight games. Tike Redman and Brandon Fahey each added two hits in the contest.
Kevin Slowey (5-2) picked up the complete game win for Rochester, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out six.
Rochester was serving as the home team in the contest, which was a makeup of a game that was originally postponed due to rain at Frontier Field on April 12.
Game two of the doubleheader is currently underway.
