Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Indianapolis Indians in the second game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking to bounce back from a losing streak that reached three games last night with the team's first shutout loss of the season. On the hill for the Bisons will be RHP Sean Smith, who is coming off another dominating performance. Smith threw six shutout innings to defeat Ottawa on Wednesday (3H, 4K). The Indianapolis Indians will counter with RHP Bryan Bullington.

MEET MR. SMITH: RHP Sean Smith has allowed just two runs in his last 28.1 innings of work. With 1.1 more innings today, his 1.78ERA would qualify for second in the International League. In his four games as a starter this year, he is 2-0 with a 0.81ERA. Overall, Smith has limited opponents to a .225 batting average with only six extra-base hits (all doubles).

STILL SWINGING: Last night, Franklin Gutierrez picked up right where he left off. The outfielder had a 16-game hit streak when he was recalled on May 6. On Saturday, Gutierrez went 1-3 to extend his streak to 17-games (.382, 29-76). It's the third longest streak in the International League this season trailing Columbus' Brandon Watson's active 19-game streak.

RUN PRODUCERS: The Bisons have three batters with 20+ RBI on the season. Ryan Mulhern is tied for second in the International League with 28. Keith Ginter is right behind him with 23RBI on the year. Ben Francisco has driven in 21 himself. Overall, 11 different Buffalo batters have driven in at least 10.

GOOD EYE, GOOD EYE: Infielder Luis Rivas didn't have an official at-bat last night because he drew four walks. The last Bisons hitter to have that amount of patience was Ben Francisco on July 29 at Pawtucket.

HIGH-SCORING HERD: Despite last night's shutout loss, the Bisons are still second in the International League in runs scored (202). The Herd offense is also third in the IL in average (.272), tied for third in home runs (34) and fourth in steals (43).

WEAR PINK: This afternoon, Bisons players will be wearing pink hats in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation's Day for a Cure. There will be a raffle held during the game for the hats, which the players will autograph after the game, with all proceeds going to the fight against breast cancer.
