Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Today, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Ottawa Lynx in the second game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is currently 0-1 on their season-long 10-game homestand. On the mound this afternoon will be RHP Sean Smith. The Bisons team-leader in wins, Smith worked six innings in a no-decision last Friday in Scranton/WB. The Lynx will counter with LHP J.A. Happ.

GO NORTH: All 26 of the Bisons remaining games are against the IL North division. The Bisons will play 16 of the next 20 games at Dunn Tire Park as each divisional rival will visit Buffalo during that stretch. The Bisons are 5-4 against the Lynx this season.

MEET MR. SMITH: RHP Sean Smith leads the Bisons in wins (9) and strikeouts (75). With his start today, he'll also lead the team with 19 starts, while his 115.2 innings of work are just shy of Jeff Harris' 116.0. Smith is coming off a no-decision on Friday in Scranton/WB where he left the game with a 6-4 lead. He allowed just four hits while striking out three in that outing.

THE FRANCHISE: Ben Francisco has hit in seven straight games and is looking to reclaim his spot as the league's top hitter. Since August 2, Francisco has hit .393 (11-28) with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. His season average is now .320, 3rd in the International League and just nine points behind Rochester's Jose Morales.

HIT MACHINE: Ryan Mulhern doubled again last night, his 33rd of the season. That's the 3rd most in the IL this season. He's on pace to hit 40, which would be the 2nd-most in the Bisons Modern Era (Jhonny Peralta, 44, 2004). The double was also Mulhern's 120th hit of 2007, the 4th most in the league. At .309, Mulhern has the 6th-highest batting average

UN-COOPED: Jason Cooper posted three more hits last night and has now hit in 10 of his last 11 games. Since July 29, Cooper has averaged .475 (19-40) with six doubles, three triples, two home runs and eight RBI. The stretch has raised his average 35 points to .273 (the highest it's been since May 15). Cooper's 37 extra-base hits are the 2nd most on the team.
