
Richmond Bats Too Much for Charlotte

FORT MILL, S.C. - August 9, 2007 - The Richmond Braves took an early 6-0 lead and held on to defeat Charlotte 9-8. The two teams combined for 25 hits.
Barbaro Canizares got things going for the Braves with a three-run home run giving Richmond a 3-0 lead. The Braves added three more to build a 6-0 lead, when Knights centerfielder Jason Bourgeios hit his first grand slam home run with Charlotte in the bottom of the 4th to close the gap to 6-4. The Knights added another run in the 5th making it 6-5.
The two teams traded runs in the 6th and were tied 7-7 going into the 8th when Brayan Pena singled to center field to bring home Brandon Jones, giving Richmond an 8-7 lead and they'd never look back.
Jeff Bennett (2-3, 2.97) got the win for the Braves, while Carlo Vasquez (2-2, 3.16) took the loss for the Knights.
The teams will conclude their four game series with RHP Lance Broadway (6-6, 4.01) will start for Charlotte while Manny Acosta (9-3, 2.26) will take the mound for Richmond.
