TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Toledo Mud Hens in the finale of a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). Down 2-1, the Herd needs a win today to earn a split of the four-game set. Starting tomorrow, Buffalo will host Charlotte for a four-game series -the final non-divisional opponent to visit Coca-Cola Field this season.
vs. HENS: Today is the final regular season matchup between the Bisons and the Mud Hens this year. The Bisons need a win to split the season series as Toledo holds the 4-3 edge. Aside from the Herd's 17-1 win on Tuesday, the series has been low scoring as the teams have combined to average just .221.
SCHWINDEN : RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN gets the start today and will pitch in Coca-Cola Field for the first time in almost two months. The righty's last start at home was May 22 vs. Indianapolis when he allowed two earned in four innings of a loss. Schwinden returned to the Bisons July 6 having been claimed off waivers (Yankees) by the Mets. Schwinden has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his 10 starts with the Bisons this season.
LOEWEN: INF ADAM LOEWEN extended his hit streak to five games with a pair of singles yesterday. The slugger has averaged .375 (9-24) with three home runs and four RBI since July 14. He has also scored at least one run in each of the last five contests (6 total runs). Loewen has averaged .320 (16-50) with five homers and 12RBI in 11 games this month.
SILKY: INF JOSH SATIN had a hit and two walks last night and has now reached base at least three times in six of his last 10 games. Satin also has a walk in seven straight contests (11 total walks) and 21 total free passes in his last 17 games. Satin's .401 on-base percentage is tied for second best in the IL, behind only Charlotte's Dan Johnson (.416).
STARTING STRONG: The Bisons starting rotation has delivered four consecutive "Ëquality starts.' Since the All-Star break, Herd starters are 2-0 with a 2.55ERA. The group has combined to allow just 12 earned runs in 42.1 innings of work with 39 hits allowed and 37 strikeouts. The rotation has allowed four earned runs in just one of seven starts since the break.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (46-45) lost their fifth straight contest, 4-3, to the Nationals last night. 3B DAVID WRIGHT had three hits, including his 30th double of the season and his 12th home run. OF JASON BAY also homered for New York. The Mets take on Washington again this afternoon at 12:35 p.m.
