TODAY'S GAME:
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Louisville Bats for the first game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Today's game begins an eight-game homestand as the Herd will welcome in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, May 9-12. Buffalo is coming off a 3-5 roadtrip to Rochester and Lehigh Valley. Today's game against the IL West Bats is their first non-divisional game of the 2011 season.
VS. BATS:
The Bisons were 5-3 against Louisville last season, including a 3-1 mark against the Bats at Coca-Cola Field. Since rejoining the International League in 1998, the Herd has lost just one four-game set to Louisville in Buffalo. The Bats swept a four-game set at Coca-Cola Field in 2008. Overall, the Bisons are 32-20 against the Bats at home.
HEY MR. D.J.:
RHP D.J. CARRASCO will make his Coca-Cola Field debut tonight with his second start as a Bison. Carrasco was optioned by the Mets on April 26 and made one relief appearance and one start on the roadtrip. In his start on Saturday, the righty allowed five runs (three earned) in three innings of work in a loss to the IronPigs. Carrasco was 0-1 with a 5.91ERA in eight games with the Mets to start 2011.
ZIPPIDY DUDA:
OF LUCAS DUDA has been optioned back to the Bisons. The outfielder was promoted to New York, May 3-4 as OF Jason Bay left the team for the birth of his son. Duda has had five multi-hit performances in his last eight games with Buffalo. The outfielder has hit an even .400 (12-30) since April 25 with three doubles, three home runs and seven RBI.
RUN STOPPER:
C RAUL CHAVEZ has thrown out 52.6% of would-be base stealers, tops in the International League. In fact, that success rate is 15% higher than any other catcher. Chavez has thrown out 10 of 19 would-be base stealers and also has five hits in his last eight at-bats.
BISONS BITS:
The Bisons committed just two errors on their recent eight-game roadtrip...Of the Bisons 20 home runs this season, 15 are solo home runs and none are three-run or grand slams...Bisons pinch hitters have averaged .286 (6-21) with a home run and one RBI.
METS UPDATE :
The Mets (12-18) were shut out by the Giants last night, 2-0. LHP CHRIS CAPUANO was the hard luck loser, allowing just two runs in 6.1 innings of work. San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum struck out 12 New York batters. The Mets and Giants close out their three-game set this afternoon at 1:10 p.m.
