TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the third game of a four-game set at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). After a 4-1 loss last night, the Herd is now 2-4 on their current eight-game homestand. Buffalo travels to Boston on Saturday to square off with the PawSox in the 7th Annual Futures at Fenway Game at Fenway Park.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 6-5 against the IronPigs this season. The Herd split a two-game series in Lehigh Valley, August 8-9. The Herd is 3-3 against the IronPigs at home. The Bisons will again travel to Lehigh Valley for the final three games of the 2012 regular season, September 1-3.
WHEELER: RHP ZACK WHEELER makes his third start with the Herd and his second at Coca-Cola Field. The righty is coming off a no-decision against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, August 11, where he tossed 6.0 innings of one-run baseball while allowing just two hits. Wheeler has surrendered only five hits and three earned runs over his first two Triple-A starts. (10.2IP, 11K).
UPPER DEKKER: OF MATT DEN DEKKER drove in the only run for the Bisons last night. den Dekker has hit .297 (11-37) in his last 10 games with seven runs scored and 13 runs batted in. The outfielder has 48 hits on the season, 23 of which have gone for extra bases (10 doubles, 4 triples, 9HR).
RAMIREZ: RHP ELVIN RAMIREZ tossed two perfect innings in relief last night, lowering his ERA to 2.16 in 25 appearances with the Herd. In his last 10 outings with Buffalo, Ramirez has allowed just three earned runs with nine strikeouts in 13.1 innings of work.
BISONS BITS: LHP C.J. NITKOWSKI threw another scoreless inning in last night's contest, extending his streak to six games without allowing an earned run (5.1IP)...C MIKE NICKEAS had two more hits last night, including a double. He is now hitting .341 (14-41) in his 13 games with the Herd...LHP GARRETT OLSON threw a scoreless frame in his first appearance with Buffalo since August 2 in a start against Syracuse (7.0IP, 2H, ER, 7K) and his first relief outing since July 17 against Toledo (two shutout innings).
METS UPDATE : The Mets (55-62) lost 6-1 to Cincinnati last night in the second game of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park. INF RUBEN TEJADA and OF MIKE BAXTER each had a pair of hits for New York. Former Bisons RHP MATT HARVEY takes the mound tonight in the final game of the series against the Reds (7:10 p.m.).
