ROLLIN', ROLLIN' ON THE (GENESEE) RIVER: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 3rd game of their 4-game series against the best team in the International League, the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates). Rochester began the series and 6-game homestand by winning the first 2 contests 3-1 and 6-2. Following 2 more with IL Central Division-leading Indianapolis, the Red Wings will close out their season series with Empire State (Yankees) with a 2-game set Saturday-Sunday. Then it's back on the road for a quick 2-game trip to Pawtucket (Red Sox) Monday-Tuesday.
ROSTER NEWS: The Minnesota Twins yesterday optioned righthander Jeff Manship and Luis Perdomo to Triple-A Rochester.
a Manship posted a 4.91 ERA (6 ER/11.0 IP) in 4 games with the Twins after being recalled July 29. He has a 7.89 ERA in 12 appearances with the Twins in 2 stints overall. Perdomo, meanwhile, allowed 3 runs (one earned) in 6.0 innings in 5 games with Minnesota after having his contract selected July 27.
IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER: At 64-61, the Red Wings are a season-high 3 games above .500 for the 3rd time. Rochester was also 3 up at 5-2 after a 2-1 win vs. Pawtucket on April 11 and at 59-56 after a 10-9 win in 19 innings at Toledo (Tigers) on August 5. Rochester tonight looks to get to 4 games over .500 for the first time since May 14, 2009, when they were 18-14 following a 5-4 win vs. Indianapolis.
a The Red Wings were last 5 games above .500 when they concluded the 2007 season with a 77-67 record.
STAYING HOT: The Red Wings have won 2 straight, 4 of their last 5, 5 of their last 7, and 12 of their last 17. They are a league-best 27-16 beginning July 1. A look at the Top-5 records since the start of July:

2. Charlotte 25-17 .595
T3. Columbus 23-19 .548
Empire State 23-19 .548
5. Indianapolis 23-20 .535
a The Red Wings are 44-31 since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 on May 28. Going back further, Rochester is 50-38 beginning May 15 for the 4th-best record in the IL in that time.

The 2011 and 2010 clubs were both 31 games under .500 at 47-78 at this point in the last 2 seasons. The Red Wings in 2012 are looking for their first winning season since the 2008 club went 74-70. a The season series sweep against Toledo is the Red Wings' first against any opponent since the IL expanded to 14 teams in 1998. The IL office believes it may be the Wings' first of all time. It also marks the first season series sweep for any IL team against another since Pawtucket went 8-0 against Richmond in 2006.
LONG DIVISION: The Red Wings Saturday will begin a stretch of playing their final 17 games against teams within the IL North Division. Rochester is just 25-38 against its division rivals, including a 4-8 mark since the All-Star Break. a With 15 already, Parmelee's next homer will give him the most in one season for a Red Wing since Brock Peterson clubbed 19 in 2010. The 2011 high was 15 by Jeff Bailey, Dustin Martin, and Trevor Plouffe.
THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY: In 1986, according to BaseballLibrary.com, Dale Holman of the IL's Richmond Braves becomes the first professional player to ever play for 2 teams in one game...the game was suspended because of rain on June 16 when he was in the lineup for Syracuse...by the time the game is completed today=82 Holman had been traded to Richmond and is in the lineup.
