July 31, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the final game of a four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium (7:00 p.m.). The Herd can earn a split of the set with a win tonight. Buffalo is currently 1-2 on their season-long 11-game roadtrip. Tonight, the Herd will turn to LHP Cliff Lee. The southpaw will be making his first start since been optioned by Cleveland on Friday. Syracuse will counter with LHP Mark Redman.
GO NORTH: All 35 of the Bisons reaming games are against International League North division teams. Buffalo's 28-17 record within the IL North is the best among the six teams. The Herd is 8-5 so far this year against the Syracuse Chiefs.
LEE RETURNS: LHP Cliff Lee is back with the Herd for the second time this season. After beginning the year on the Indians DL (strained abdominal), he made a rehab start on April 21 against Pawtucket (4.0IP, 2R, 4K). He also pitched for the Bisons in 2002 and 2003 and is 9-3 with a 3.51ERA in 20 career starts with the team. Lee was 5-8 with a 6.38ERA in 16 starts with Cleveland this year before being optioned. Since the 2004 season, Lee is 51-32 with a 4.76ERA in 114 starts with Cleveland.
ALL-STAR SLUGGER: Ryan Mulhern had three more hits last night and is 6-9 (.667) in the series with Syracuse. His .310 average is now 5th in the International League. He also ranks T3rd in doubles (31), 5th in slugging percentage (.514) and T11th in RBI (59). Mulhern's 13 home runs, 45 extra-base hits and 53 runs scored lead the Bisons.
UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper drove in three more runs last night with a bases-loaded walk and a two-run triple. That moves him past Richie Sexson and into 7th place in the Bisons Modern Era with 163 career RBI. With three more RBI, Cooper would pull even with manager Torey Lovullo (166) for 6th. Cooper's 278 games played are the 12th most in the Modern Era.
SNYDER DL'd: Outfielder Brad Snyder has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to July 28. Snyder broke his right thumb trying to break up a doubleplay on Friday against Charlotte. Cliff Lee takes his spot on the Bisons active roster.
THRUWAY CUP: At 13-8, the Bisons lead the 2007 Thruway Cup Series. The Herd is 3.0 games up on second place Rochester (9-10) and 4.5 games up on tonight's opponent, the Syracuse Chiefs (10-14).
