Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY-The Louisville Bats took an early two-run lead on Tuesday night, but three unanswered scores propelled the Charlotte Knights to a 3-2 win in front of 9,398 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Knights designated hitter and former Bat Kenny Kelly provided the winning run in the top of the ninth inning with a double to left field, scoring second baseman Wiki Gonzalez. The hit was Kelly's only of the night in three at-bats.

Left fielder Chris Dickerson put the Bats on the board in the third inning, tripling to right field, driving in Jeff Bannon, and scoring on the play when Gonzalez committed an error on the relay throw. Dickerson finished the evening 1-for-5 with three strikeouts.

Charlotte center fielder Jason Bourgeois tied the score at two in the top of the eighth with a solo home run to left field. Bourgeois finished his evening 2-for-4 and also scored the first Knights run after shortstop Tomas Perez drove him in with a RBI double in the fourth inning.

Kirk Saarloos, making his first start for Louisville since being outrighted from Cincinnati, allowed two hits in five innings and struck out three in the no decision. Bill Bray (1-2) picked up the loss after giving up the hit to Kelly.

Reliever Mike MacDougal (2-0) took the win for Charlotte, despite giving up a hit and a walk in the eighth inning. David Aardsma picked up his seventh save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth inning. Starter Andrew Sisco gave up six hits and walked three in six innings.

The Bats head on the road for five games starting Wednesday night in Norfolk. RHP Johnny Cueto (1-0, 3.60) for the Bats and RHP Jim Johnson (5-9, 3.76) for the Tides are the scheduled starters for the 7:15 p.m. first pitch.
