Toledo, OH - The Toledo Mud Hens beat the Richmond Braves 8-4 Tuesday at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens erupted for five first inning runs to earn a sweep of the four game series.
In the first, Jack Hannahan smacked a three run homer and Erick Almonte chased two runs home with a double as the Hens sent 10 men to the plate. Wes Timmons ripped a two run homer in the second to get Richmond on the board. The Hens added a run in the fourth on an RBI triple by Andres Torres. Toledo tacked on two more runs in the fifth to open up an 8-2 lead on a two-run double by Almonte. In the sixth, Doug Clark scampered home on a double play ball and Jonathan Schuerholz laced an RBI double to trim the Mud Hens lead to 8-4.
Dennis Tankersley earned the win. Jeremy Johnson picked up a save. Dan Smith took the loss. Timmons and Martin Prado had two hits each for the Braves. Almonte had two hits and four RBI to lead Toledo.
The Braves return home Wednesday with a 6 PM doubleheader against Indianapolis. Kevin Barry is scheduled to pitch the first game for the Braves. For more information please call 359-4444 or visit www.rbraves.com.
