TODAY'S GAME: Is the fourth of a four-game series and the 10th of 12 games vs. Toledo. The sixth of six at Fifth Third Field. The Braves are 3-6 against the Mud Hens. 1-4 at Fifth Third Field. This is the 10th game against Toledo in July (the Braves and Hens meet 10 times in a space of 20 games in July - the most games vs. any one team in a any one month this season). The Braves are 390-331 all-time vs. the Mud Hens. It is the 36th of 48 games vs. West Division clubs; the 24th and final on the road. Richmond is 18-17 vs. the West, 11- 12 away from The Diamond. It is the Braves final road game outside the South Division. The Braves lead the South Division by two games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Mud Hens beat the Braves 10-3 Monday at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens scored four runs in the first inning and Dane Sardinha hit three home runs as the Hens coasted to their third straight win over the Braves. Toledo chased Braves starting pitcher Blaine Boyer out in the first inning. Erick Almonte smacked a two run homer, David Espinosa knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and Dane Sardinha drew a bases loaded walk. The Braves responded with a run in the second on a homer by Brent Lillibridge. Sardinha homered in the third to stretch the Hens lead to 5-1. Brandon Jones produced a run with a fielder's choice in the fifth to trim the Hens advantage to 5-3. Sardinha smacked his second homer of the night in the sixth and hit a three run blast in the seventh to make it 10-2. The Braves pushed a run across in the ninth on a ground out by Iker Franco. Ron Chiavacci earned the win. Boyer took the loss. Lillibridge had two his for the Braves. Sardinha drove in seven runs.
BUMP IN THE ROAD: The Braves finish their first sub-.500 road trip of the season today. They will finish the year under .500 at Toledo. The only other park the Braves are under .500 in is Charlotte (1-3) and Richmond has four games remaining there. The Braves have lost a road series for the fourth time this year. The last time the Braves were swept in a four game series on the road was at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last July 25-28. The Braves are 6-7 on the road in July (they have not had a sub-.500 month on the road this season.
THAT'S A JACK FACT: The Braves allowed four home runs in a game for the second time this season last night. Four different Braves pitchers surrendered home runs in the game. Dane Sardinha's three home run performance was the first time an opponent hit three homers in a game vs. Richmond since Pat Dodson did it for Pawtucket June 7, 1985 (Bubba Trammel hit four home runs in a game vs. Richmond for Toledo August 9, 1997). The Mud Hens have hit seven home runs (more than 10% of the season total allowed by Richmond this season) in the three games of this series.
AFTERNOON DELIGHT: Today's 12 PM start is the Braves final non-weekend/ holiday afternoon game of the season. The Braves have played five games with a noon or earlier start time and are 3-2 in those games.
TOP OF THE HEAP: The Braves lead the IL in ERA (3.56), most shutouts (13), and fewest home runs allowed (69). Richmond is second in the league in stolen bases (108). The Braves lead the league in fielding percentage (.985) and fewest errors (60). Richmond leads the IL in percentage of runners thrown out stealing (59-133 .444). Martin Prado is second in the league in hitting (.323). Gregor Blanco is fourth in runs scored (61). Corky Miller leads the IL in percentage of runners caught stealing (36- 77 .468).
STREAKERS: Martin Prado has hits in 10 straight games (13-42 .310). He has hits in 23 of his last 24 games. Pete Orr has a four game hitting streak (8-18 .444). Brent Lillibridge has hits in four straight games (7-14 .500).
