Buffalo Bisons News Release

In what could be called the year of the shutout, the Bisons wound up on the short side of another one.

The Herd lost to the Pawtucket Red Sox, 1-0, on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Field in what is the 30th game this season where either Buffalo or their opponent were held off the scoreboard. Each team had six hits, but only Marco Hernandez's drove in a run for the PawSox victory.

Buffalo is now 12-18 on the season in shutouts. The 30 combined shutout games is three more than any other team in the International League and represents 23% of the Bisons' 133 games played so far this season.

The Bisons threatened twice on Thursday night but both rallies were shut down by doubleplays turned by Pawtucket. Dalton Pompey and Matt Hague each singled in the sixth inning, but Alex Hassan hit into an around-the-horn twin killing to end that rally. With two on and one out in the ninth inning, Pawtucket turned another 5-4-3 on a grounder from Sean Ochinko to end the ball game.

Pawtucket's Rich Hill outdueled Bisons starter Todd Redmond for his third win of the season. Both hurlers worked six innings. Hill struck out eight and walked three. Redmond fanned five without issuing a free pass.

But Pawtucket got to Redmond in the fourth inning for the only run they would need. Allen Craig hit a one-out double off the wall in left-center than twisted up Pompey on the ricochet. The Bisons outfielder fell awkwardly and stayed done on the ground momentarily, but stayed in the game.

Two batters later, Hernandez singled to right field to push across the night's only run.

The Bisons and PawSox square off again on Friday night in the last fridaynightbash! of the season. Andrew Albers starts for the Herd at 7:05 p.m.

BISONS NOTES:

Matt Hague collected his 167 hit of the season to remain on pace to break Jhonny Peralta's modern era record of 181 hits during the 2004 season...Greg Burke (2.0 IP) and Ben Rowen (1.0) each worked hitless relief for the Bisons...Of the Bisons' 18 shutout losses this year, seven have been 1-0.
