Chiefs Fall 6-0 to Red Wings on Thursday

Rochester, NY (August 27, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 6-0, Thursday night as the five game home-and-home series shifted to Frontier Field. The Red Wings strung together six runs in their first seven batters to take an early lead off Chiefs starter Taylor Jordan en route to the win.

Rochester (69-64) brought home its first five batters against Jordan in the opening inning. Danny Santana opened the bottom of the first with a double and reached third on a fielding error on right fielder Caleb Ramsey. James Beresford followed with a single to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. Jordan then walked Xavier Avery and gave up a single to Kennys Vargas to load the bases. Josmil Pinto followed by launching a grand slam off the left-field pole, pushing the lead to 5-0. Eric Fryer followed two batters later with a solo home run to extend the lead to six runs.

Syracuse (59-74) allowed just four hits the rest of the game, thanks to four and one-third scoreless innings of relief by Bruce Billings. Offensively, the Chiefs could not solve Michael Bowden, who held Syracuse scoreless in seven innings of work. Matt Skole did pick up two hits for the second straight night.

Syracuse and Rochester play the finale of this five-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Paolo Espino is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Taylor Rogers for the Red Wings.
