Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (60-69/25-34) went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 in a 4-1 loss to the Tennessee Smokies (65-63/32-27) Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits struggled once again to advance runners with timely hits against Smokies starter Pierce Johnson who pitched five innings and gave up only one run.

The Biscuits had a lead off base runner in each of the first five innings. The only run scored in the fifth when Jake Hager led off with a double. Hager advanced to third on a wild pitch from Johnson and was pushed across after Taylor Motter grounded out to make the score 4-1.

Tennessee started off quick with a single by Albert Almora in the first, and then was scored after a Addison Russell two-run homer to make the score 2-0. In the third, Russell singled and scored when Christian Villanueva doubled and advanced their lead to 3-0.

Grayson Garvin (1-8) pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs, six hits and struck out two batters to take the loss. Santiago Garrido, Jimmy Patterson and Andrew Bellatti pitched well in relief of Garvin keeping the Smokies scoreless for four innings.

Game five of the series will start tomorrow night at 7:05 pm CST. The pitching matchup will include right-handers Victor Mateo and Ivan Pineyro.
