
Stars Hold off Jackson Rally

Huntsville, AL-The Huntsville Stars built a 4-0 lead and had to hang on late to defeat the Jackson Generals 6-4 Wednesday night at Joe Davis Stadium. With the win, the Stars have officially won the series heading into the series finale tomorrow night.
Huntsville starter Austin Ross(1-2)earned his first Double-A win of his career. Ross pitched five innings and allowed nine hits on two runs. The righty stranded nine men during his time on the mound.
The Stars scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning against Jackson starter Stephen Landazuri(6-5).
Nick Shaw gave the Stars a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly scoring Nick Ramirez. Hunter Morris produced an rbi single that went into right field scoring Yadiel Rivera making it 2-0. Shawn Zarraga capped off the four-run third with a two-run single into right field scoring Josh Fellhauer and Morris.
Landazuri, who took the loss went just 2.2 innings and allowed four runs on two hits with four walks.
The Generals got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning against Ross. Tyler Marlette and Patrick Brady hit back to back homeruns cutting the lead in half to 4-2.
The Stars got those two runs back in their next at bat in the bottom of the fourth. Kentrail Davis and Fellhauer each had rbi singles extending the lead to 6-2.
The Stars took a 6-2 lead going into the ninth inning. With Manny Barreda pitching and one out, he hit Jabari Blash with a pitch. The next batter, Jordy Lara made Barreda pay as he launched a two-run homer to left center making it 6-4.
After Dario Pizzano singled, David Goforth was summoned out of the Stars bullpen. Goforth was greeted by a Dan Paolini single.
With the tying runners on base and with one out, Goforth struck out Marlette. Goforth then got pinch hitter Patrick Kivlehan to line out to left field to end the game.
Goforth, earned his twenty sixth save of the year, the most in the Southern League.
The Stars(28-31,74-55) lead Jackson(26-33,57-71) 2-1 in their five game series. The series concludes Thursday night with LHP Brent Suter(10-8, 4.19) on the mound for Huntsville. Jackson will send RHP Victor Sanchez(6-5, 3.88) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:15 CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
