Knoxville Smokies News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Chicago Cubs announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to this evening's contest against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.

Right-handed reliever Lendy Castillo has been placed on the Disabled List with a calf strain. In 35 appearances with the Smokies this season, the 25-year-old has posted a 1-1 record and 3.79 ERA (17 ER in 40.1 IP), adding one save.

In a corresponding move, right-handed reliever Tony Zych has been activated from the Disabled List. The Illinois native accumulated a 4-5 mark and 5.57 ERA (32 ER in 51.2 IP) over 41 relief appearances prior to being placed on the Disabled List on August 13. At the time, those 41 outings led all Smokies pitchers.

The first place Smokies are slated to face off in the fourth game of their series with the Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Tennessee is expected to give the ball to RHP Pierce Johnson (5-4, 2.36), who takes a 19 inning scoreless streak into tonight, while the Biscuits are anticipated to send LHP Grayson Garvin (1-7, 3.65) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET.
