Jackson Generals News Release

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (AUGUST 20, 2014) - Despite out-hitting Huntsville (28-31/74-55) Wednesday, 14-6, the Stars took the series with a 6-4 victory over the Generals (26-33/57-71) at Joe Davis Stadium. The Generals added three more home runs and are up to nine in the series. Jackson was once again doomed by the lack of clutch hitting as they were 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 runners on base.

Huntsville has won three of four in the series and the Generals have now dropped six of seven and still trail in the north division standings by five games.

Huntsville began the scoring in the bottom of the third when Nick Shaw hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Nick Ramirez. Two batters later, Hunter Morris singled home Yadiel Rivera and the lead was 2-0. After a walk to Hector Gimenez, Shawn Zarraga came up with a two-RBI base hit and the lead was 4-0 after three innings.

Jackson trimmed the lead in the top of the fourth with back-to-back two out home runs. The first long ball was the first Double-A hit for Tyler Marlette (1x4, R, HR, RBI) who launched a solo homer to center field to cut the lead to 4-1. Patrick Brady (1x4, R, HR, RBI) followed with his sixth big fly in a Generals uniform this year and the Stars lead was cut to just two, 4-2.

Huntsville came right back in the bottom of the fourth as Nick Ramirez led off with a double and scored when Kentrail Davis followed with a single. After a walk and a groundout Davis came across on a Josh Fellhauer single and the lead was back to four at 6-2.

Jordy Lara made things interesting in the ninth for Jackson as he blasted a two-run homer, the third in the game for Jackson to cut the lead to 6-4. But, Southern League saves leader David Goforth came in and retired two of three with no further damage to earn his 26th save.

Stephen Landazuri (6-5, 4.13) did not get out of the third inning on Wednesday and suffered the loss. In 2.2 innings, he gave up four runs on two hits and walked four batters. Austin Ross (1-2) earned his first Double-A victory with a 5.0 inning performance where allowed two runs and scattered nine hits while striking six Generals.

The Generals will look to salvage two games in the set during the series finale on Thursday. It will be the final game played by the Generals at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. Jackson will send Victor Sanchez (6-5, 3.88) to the mound as Brent Suter (10-8, 4.19) will make the start for the Stars. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
