Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - For a team-record fourth-consecutive season, the Montgomery Biscuits (75-60) are going to the postseason. Montgomery punched their ticket to the Southern League playoffs for the seventh time in their 15-year history, and beat the Tennessee Smokies (65-68), 9-5, on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits' run of four-straight playoff berths is the longest active streak in the Southern League.

Dalton Moats opened for the Biscuits and allowed an unearned run in his lone inning of work on a Jake Cronenworth error at shortstop to put Tennessee up, 1-0. After a scoreless bottom of the first by Smokies starter and former Auburn Tiger Keegan Thompson (5-3), the Biscuits responded with two runs in the bottom of the second on a double steal by Dalton Kelly and Brett Sullivan, and then a Thomas Milone RBI-single to leap ahead, 2-1.

Forrest Snow (1-0) came on for Moats in the second, and the Smokies would reclaim the lead in the third thanks to an RBI-triple from Eddy Martinez and an RBI-single by P.J. Higgins to make it 3-2. Sullivan would clobber a two-run homer to right to put the Biscuits back in front, 4-3, in the bottom of the third, and then a Zack Short two-run homer to left in the top of the fourth put Tennessee back on top, 5-4.

The Biscuits would blow things open in the bottom half of the fourth, however, with four two-out runs. Montgomery got an RBI-triple from Michael Russell, and three-consecutive RBI-singles from Jake Cronenworth (who extended his hitting streak to 12 games), Miles Mastrobuoni, and Nathan Lukes to take the lead for good. They added an RBI-groundout from Kelly in the seventh.

The Biscuits will wrap up the regular season away at the Mobile BayBears, beginning a five-game series on Thursday at 6:35 PM CT. The Biscuits will then head to Jackson, Tennessee to take on the Jackson Generals in Games 1 and 2 of the North Division Series next Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6, before returning to Riverwalk Stadium for Game 3 on Friday, September 7.
