BayBears Can't Hold on against Wahoos in Series Finale

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Despite holding a trio of leads, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, could not hold on in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the series finale Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Patrick Sandoval struck out eight batters over four scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits, two of which stayed in the infield, in his third Double-A start.
The BayBears (65-66 overall, 28-35 second half) had 1-0, 3-1, and 4-3 leads during the game. Mitch Ghelfi drove in his 12th run against Pensacola with a fielder's choice in the fourth. Alexis Olmeda and Connor Justus both drove in runs to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth. Zach Gibbons delivered with an RBI single off Robinson Leyer (5-3) in the 10th inning to put Mobile back in front 4-3.
However, the Blue Wahoos (66-66, 36-28) tied the game on a double play in the fifth and an Aristides Aquino two-run double with two outs in the eighth. Aquino scored the winning run on Narciso Crook's two-run single off Ralston Cash (2-2) in the bottom of the 10th.
The BayBears return home for a five-game home series against the Montgomery Biscuits Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez (7-10, 6.24 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty J.D Martin (8-10, 4.41 ERA) for the Biscuits.
