August 28, 2018 - Southern League (SL1)
Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers (77-57, 36-28)? snapped their three-game losing streak and recaptured sole possession of first place in the South Division with a 7-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (63-68, 34-27) on Monday night at Trustmark Park.
The Shuckers received six innings of one-run ball from RHP Trey Supak (W, 5-6). Despite falling behind in the third, Supak allowed just three hits to keep his team within striking distance. The lone run came unearned on a passed ball to put the M-Braves up 1-0.
The Shuckers immediately responded in the top of the fourth when Keston Hiura belted his sixth long ball of the year for Biloxi out to left, a solo shot to tie the game. They added two more runs against starter LHP Ricardo Sanchez (L, 2-5) in the fifth. After Max McDowell led off with a single, Corey Ray doubled home the go-ahead run. Ray then scored on an error by Daniel Lockhart at third, giving the Shuckers a 3-1 lead.
The runs piled on late, as Biloxi plated two more in both the eighth and ninth to salt the game away. With runners at second and third, McDowell made it a 5-1 contest with a two-run single. In the ninth, a Luis Aviles Jr. RBI-single and Gabriel Noriega sacrifice fly provided the 7-1 final.
The Shuckers' bullpen notched three scoreless frames in the win. RHP Jeff Ames (H, 3) handled the seventh, while RHP Jon Olczak cruised through the eighth and ninth to put the game away.
A win for the Shuckers on Tuesday night would guarantee sole possession of first place heading into the final series of the regular season. RHP Conor Harber (1-0, 0.77) gets the ball for Biloxi, while RHP Enderson Franco (5-9, 4.18) tosses for Mississippi at Noon CT.
