Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A night after winning their first one-run game of the season, 3-2, the Biscuits (14-8) had an encore performance and slipped past the Birmingham Barons (9-14), 3-2, on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium to win the series in front of a massive crowd of 6,988 for Harry Potter Night. The win was the Biscuits' fifth in a row.
Biscuits starter Kenny Rosenberg worked out of a number of jams, but still managed four scoreless innings in a no-decision. The Biscuits, who have outscored their opponents 13-2 in the first inning this season, drew first blood with an RBI-fielder's choice off the bat of Jesus Sanchez in the first against Barons starter Bernardo Flores (1-3). The Biscuits have now scored first in 16 of their first 22 games this season and are 13-3 in those games.
In the fourth, Robbie Tenerowicz launched his second home run of the season, a two-run shot off Flores, that was all the Biscuits would need at 3-0. Dalton Moats came on for Rosenberg and tossed three innings of one-run ball, serving up just an RBI-single to Luis Gonzalez that finally got the Barons on the board in the seventh.
Tyler Zombro worked a 1-2-3 eighth, before allowing his first run at the Double-A level when one scored in the ninth on a double play that made it 3-2, ending the right-hander's consecutive-scoreless inning streak at 13. Zombro would strike out Mitch Roman looking to end the game and notch his first save.
The Biscuits won't be in line to play a rubber match in a series for the first time this season after Saturday night's victory, and will send Brendan McKay (0-0) to the mound against Felix Paulino (2-1) on Sunday at 2:05 PM CT when it will be Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Hat Giveaway and Autism Awareness Day.
The home stand will also feature Craft Beer Night on Wednesday, May 1; Military Appreciation Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, May 3; Star Wars Night featuring a Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 4; and Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Sunday, May 5.
