JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (9-14) defeated the Tennessee Smokies (10-11) 6-3 Saturday night at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The loss is the Smokies season-high fourth straight. Robel Garcia continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4 to raise his average to .349.
Magneuris Sierra tripled to lead off the first for the Jumbo Shrimp and scored the game's first run on Joe Dunand's sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Dunand homered to left field off RHP Thomas Hatch (L, 0-3) to extend Jacksonville's lead to 2-0. The Jumbo Shrimp scored two both the seventh and eighth to blow the game open.
After Jumbo Shrimp pitching retired 14-straight, the Smokies pushed across three in the ninth. Roberto Caro walked to open up the inning and came around to score on Vimael Machin's RBI-single. Jhonny Pereda hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring P.J. Higgins, to cut the deficit to 6-2. Pinch-hitter Jesse Hodges had an RBI-infield-single to round out the scoring.
RHP Robert Dugger (W, 1-4) allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for his first win of the season. Hatch suffered his third consecutive loss, he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings with five strikeouts. RHP Jordan Milbrath (S, 1) got the final out for his first save of 2019.
RHP Cory Abbott (2-0, 2.01) will get the ball Sunday afternoon, looking to play the role of stopper for the Smokies. RHP Jorge Guzman (0-2, 5.75) will start for the Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch from Jacksonville is 3:05 PM ET.
