Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
ZEBULON, N.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans could not overcome an offensive barrage from the Carolina Mudcats as the Muddies swept the Birds with a 7-2 win in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
For the third time in the series, the Carolina Mudcats (22-14) jumped in front of the Pelicans (12-25) in the first inning. After a walk to Ryan Aguilar, back-to-back doubles by Tristen Lutz and Payton Henry plated a pair of runs and the Muddies took a 2-0 lead after the first.
Myrtle Beach came right back in the top of the second inning when Grant Fennell doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a triple from Aramis Ademan to make it 2-1. One batter later, Kevonte Mitchell drove in Ademan to tie the ballgame at two, but that was the last time the Pelicans would score off of Dylan File (3-3). File, the Muddies starting pitcher, delivered seven innings and allowed just two runs to earn his third win of the season.
Carolina continued their offensive onslaught against Adbert Alzolay (0-1) in the second inning as the Muddies pieced together four-consecutive hits and scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead. A double from Devin Hairston and singles from Joantgel Segovia and Aguilar each plated a run as the Muddies extended their lead to three.
Pat McInerney added a run in the third to extend the lead to 6-2 on a prodigious solo homer to right center field. After the third inning, the scoring drastically diminished. It was not until the eighth inning that another run was scored when a bases-loaded walk put another run on the board that made it 7-2 Carolina.
