Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS - Two streaks ended on Sunday afternoon at Sioux Falls Stadium, both welcome relief for the Sioux Falls Canaries.
The Canaries' 6-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints snapped their seven-game losing streak while halting the Saints' five-game winning streak. The Birds (14-29) salvaged the finale of the three-game series and a six-game homestand.
Canaries starter Kyle Ruwe (4-5) played the stopper role by limiting St. Paul (22-20) to one run across eight innings. After giving up a run on back-to-back hits in the second inning, he shut out the Saints over the next six on four hits. He scattered eight hits total while walking one and striking out one.
Down 1-0 in the second inning, the Canaries rallied for four runs on five straight hits to start the bottom of the fourth. Cory Morales and Marcos Rodriguez each singled, and Clark then knocked Morales home. Tim Pahuta followed with a three-run home run into the right field parking lot, his second in as many games and 13th of the season.
Pahuta, who was 1-for-4, wrapped up an exceptional month of June in which he hit .396 with 11 home runs and 26 RBI.
Nick Van Stratten doubled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning and scored on a double play. In the eighth, Jared Clark belted a triple off the center field wall and plated on Jake Taylor's double for a 6-1 Canaries advantage.
The Saints had the bases with two outs in the ninth inning when they were helped to two runs by Stephen King's fielding error. That brought the tying run to the plate, but J.P. Ramirez slid to grab Adam Frost's sinking liner in left field for a game-saving catch.
Wes Roemer (4-5) suffered the loss for the Saints. He allowed five runs and nine hits in six innings of work while striking out two.
The Canaries begin a four-game road series with the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN and kwsn.com.
