Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis used a big fifth inning to coast to a 9-4 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs in the first game of the series at AutoZone Park Monday night.

The Redbirds batted around in the fifth inning with 10 'Birds coming to the plate. Kevin Estrada singled in Travis Hanson and later scored on a Timo Perez single. A Brian Daubach walk led to Perez scoring and Chris Duncan drove in two more runs with a single before Junior Spivey flew out to right field to end the inning. Perez, Hanson and Estrada each had two-hit games and Daubach drove in three runs. Brandon Watson led New Orleans with two of the team's eight hits.

Memphis starter Dennis Tankersley (1-3) earned his first win of the season with 6.1 innings of solid work. The right-hander allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits with a season-high six strikeouts. Saul Rivera (0-1) took the loss for the Zephyrs after allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits in 3.1 innings.

The win over New Orleans is the first for Memphis this season after being swept by the Z's at New Orleans earlier this year. Memphis will send Anthony Reyes (1-0) to the mound tomorrow night in search of consecutive wins for just the second time in 2006. Right-hander Kyle Denney (0-2) will toe the rubber for the Z's. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
