Cust's hot bat makes him week's top performer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- In a week that included an impressive stretch of reaching base 19 times in 20 plate appearances with the only exception coming on a sacrifice fly, Portland Beavers left fielder Jack Cust is the PCL's top player for the week ending April 30. Aaron Sele became second Las Vegas starter to take home the PCL Pitcher of the Week award in as many weeks by pitching 12.2 scoreless innings in two appearances for the 51s.
In an April 24 performance against the Salt Lake Bees, Jack Cust ignited his award-winning week by reaching base in all of his five plate appearances going two-for-two with three walks and a home run while knocking in three runs for the Beavers. Cust followed up with another two for two outing on the 29th and a two home run-game on the 30th vs. the Fresno Grizzlies. The Flemington, New Jersey native finished the week with eight hits, nine RBI, 11 walks, and nine runs scored to compliment a gaudy 1.385 slugging percentage.
Aaron Sele picked up where teammate Chad Billingsley left off the previous week being named the PCL's top pitcher. In an April 24th appearance facing Sacramento, Sele went 7.2 scoreless innings and tallied seven strikeouts. A native of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Sele didn't allow a single run on the week and collected a win in this two appearances while improving his season totals to an impressive 3-0 record with a 2.43 ERA, 28 strikeouts, and just five walks.
The Pacific Coast League, established in 1903, will once again look to re-write the attendance records books in 2006 after setting the Minor League regular season attendance record by drawing over 7.3-Million fans in 2005.
