'Birds end on losing note

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis dropped their season finale 3-1 to Nashville Monday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds had runners on second and third with one out but failed to score, dropping their franchise-record 88th game of the year. The club's lone run came on a triple steal with Mike McCoy stealing home to complete the first successful triple steal in Memphis professional baseball history since 1979. Travis Hanson led the 'Bird with two hits.

Nashville scored in the first inning on an error and added a solo home run from J.R. Hopf in the fourth inning. Pitcher Zach Jackson added the Sounds third run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Anderson led the team with three hits, including two doubles.

Jackson earned the win with eight strong innings of work. The lefty fanned five and scattered seven hits while giving up one run. Franklin Nunez picked up his first save with the Sounds with a scoreless ninth. Mike Parisi took the loss for the 'Birds after allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Following the game pitcher Brian Falkenborg, infielder Brian Barden and catcher Kelly Stinnett were called up to St. Louis as part of September call-ups.

Memphis ends the season 56-88 setting a franchise-record for losses for the second straight season. The Redbirds will begin their 2008 season at Oklahoma on Thursday, April 3.
